Hi...I am from Indonesia. I love all the content of e-Arabic Teachers Portal. The problem is that many resources you post seems to not work properly. Where should my complain go if I can find no Contact Address I can visit on this site? Anybody who can help me there...?..!

I got across this error. In the first paragraph we read: "While everyone in North Africa and the Middle East can read Arabic..."
Neither my mum nor my aunt, for example, can read Arabic :)

It's all about needs analysis. If your students want to learn the Quran, MSA is the way to go. If they want to learn Arabic to communicate and understand different cultures, an integrated approach would probably be better. As a non-native speaker of Arabic (and not Muslim), I don't want to speak in fusha to my taxi driver, neighbors, or colleagues (even at the Uni!). I do want to read and watch the news, though. So an integrated approach works for my needs. I fully respect the MSA only method. No worries mate!

Salaam,
I'm an Egyptian TAFL based in the UK but I very rarely teach colloquial to beginners. Although I understand most dialects (apart from the Maghreb's! ) I would only feel comfortable teaching my own for starters. Secondly, a large section of my students are learning Arabic as a vehicle to understanding the Quran/Islamic texts. Personally, I feel that Modern Standard Arabic is the best foundation for beginners which is then easily modifiable to either a dialect or Quranic Arabic.
Starting with MSA + Dialect at a stage when they are still struggling to master the alphabet and basic grammar may be challenging for many. There's also a strong argument for preserving fus7a when it is under threat in many parts of the Arab world where English or French are being prefered for academic study and many young Arabs now have very poor mastery of fus7a.
Just my opinion!
